Friends of Harbor Country

Friends of Harbor Country Trails is a not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to the development of multi-purpose bike and hike trails throughout Harbor Country in Southwest Michigan, connecting the communities of New Buffalo, Three Oaks, Sawyer, Lakeside, Union Pier, Michiana and Grand Beach, and integrating into surrounding areas.

Friends of Harbor Country Trails was organized to initiate formal planning for Hike & Bike Trail development within the three-township area known as Harbor Country in the southwest corner of Michigan. Money was raised through the generous cooperation of the Pokagon Fund to complete the first formal study of the issues associated with developing a Bike & Hike trail network within Harbor Country. This study, performed by Landscape Architects & Planners, Inc. of Lansing, Michigan, resulted in the Harbor Country Hike & Bike Plan, referenced on this site as the Project Plan.

As part of the effort to convert vision to reality, Friends of Harbor Country Trails has engaged a part-time Project Manager, who is tasked with coordinating between involved agencies and governments, and developing the Implementation Plan and this associated website.
